help me find a pair of men's casual-y dress shoes.
fashion filter time. I saw someone wearing a pair of amazing shoes but I was unable to ask where they were from. oxford style matte black (maybe leather? fake leather?) with a small heel, laces somewhere between a tennis show and a dress shoe, something that might be in an urban outfitters catalog. I hate to ask, but this is driving me crazy.

maybe try looking through this ASOS catalogue?

Sounds a lot like the shoes that resemble ballroom shoes. These are possibly more expensive than you need, but does this look like what you're after? Or this?
You might look for men's character shoes, but be aware that most will have a suede sole not well suited for outdoor wear. But there should be other styles out there that are meant for non-dance use.

Fluevog has many shoes that fit that description.

Were they Eccos? These still look fairly dressy, but have a more casual lace style: http://www.ecco.com/int/en/collection/men/casual/index.jsp

When I first read your question, I thought "ooh, I have shoes exactly like that." Then I realised that you are a man. Oops. However, Minelli does have some shoes that sound like what you are describing. Richelieu is French for Oxfords. I swear when I walked by their store today they had some with wider laces but I can't find them on the website.
This probably isn't a very helpful answer anyways since you're not in France. Sorry.
