How can I get a question answered without schlepping down to city hall?

Can I get questions about Toronto's fire code (pertaining to residential renovations) answered without driving down to city hall? I would ideally like this info for free, of course.
I want to get more light into the foyer of my house. The wall in question is brick about a foot from the lot line and 3 feet from the neighbour's brick wall.
I know that I can't install a regular window but was wondering if I could install some kind of fire rated glass brick (about a foot wide and 5 feet tall)

Yeah, I'd contact 311 and see if they can help you with that information.

Response by poster: 311 gave me a number for the fire marshal's office. I'll try it on Monday. Thanks.

Click on Property Standards (almost to the bottom) and it will open a .pdf page, which may very well have useful info.
