A clean, quiet hotel in Rochester, MN near Mayo for the noise-sensitive traveler?

My wife must be at the clinic for four days alone next month and I'm going back and forth about which hotel to book for under $120 per night. I've read all the reviews and the Hampton Inns look nice, but which is nicest? Hampton Inn North is closer to the clinic but South is newer and maybe that's worth the shuttle ride this time of year? The Hilton has an ideal location but some of the reviews cite a musty smell that we both find oppressive. DW notices everything, and while she wouldn't complain, I'd like to find the nicest room we can afford to help offset the reason for the trip.

Best answer: I just sent an email to my father-in-law, who works at Mayo and will likely have some insights into the lodging in the area. If you have any other questions about things she'll need during her stay, let me know in thread or via memail and I'll pass them along as well. I'll post his responses here in thread.

Best answer: We stayed at the Ramada on the southwest side of town early December, 2010. Don't know what it is like on the weekends because there is an indoor waterpark there. Also pretty sure a member of the cleaning staff who was smoking by the back door stole my iPhone off the roof of the car in the few minutes it took me to run portable oxygen up the stairs to my wife. The restaurant allegedly sucks and was definitely overpriced. On the other hand, good wireless connectivity, very friendly front desk folks, and it was cheap as compared to other options in the area. They were willing to work with us on our open-ended appointment schedule, booking us for a week but letting us check out after four nights.

The shuttle system is fantastic. Very friendly and timely. The Mayo staff is incredible.

Best answer: The Mayo Clinic has a lodging options webpage.

Best answer: The inlaws say the Kahler suites is very nice (not the larger Kahler Grand) and the Doubletree downtown is as well. Hope that helps you with some options!

Best answer: Oh, and my mother-in-law notes that you might prefer a streetside room to an alley-side room, as it will actually be much quieter at night. I can vouch for the streets of Rochester not having a lot going on past dark :)
