Seeking New England winter weekend retreat ideas

Anyone know of hostels that are open in the winter in New England?
I'd like to take a retreat this weekend within 2-3 hours' drive of Boston. Going solo and looking forward to some private time, so don't want to do anything too structured (or expensive), but also wouldn't mind sharing meals with random folks and being open to chance happenings. I've been thinking a hostel could be perfect, but so far no luck finding one that's open in the winter.

Check out the Rowe Center in Rowe, tucked in the north-western part of MA. It's GORGEOUS. They hold many conferences, but also offer "personal retreats" with a dorm room being $35 a night. They also barter labor for lodging. Not sure if you could score a room on the weekend if they have a conference scheduled. Check out their website here.

The AMC's Pinkham Notch Joe Dodge Lodge may be what you are looking for. Bunk rooms, group meals served family style. Close enough to civilisation, but a mountain out the back door.

HI-USA has several: White River Junction, VT, Littleton, MA, and Bethel, ME. Depending on your exact definition of New England, there may be several more on the Massachusetts shore along Cape Cod and offshore at Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, but I think these are more seasonal.

Create a profile at CouchSurfing.org and search around for somebody that seems open to hosting you. Many people would be open to leaving you to your own devices and there are quite a few people that host in areas abounding in natural beauty that you can get lost in!

I just got back from a trip in the White Mountains in NH this weekend. There is a hostel in Conway, NH that is really well run and you can come\go as you please 24 hours a day.
I think it took me about 2.5 hours to get there from Boston and you can Ski at Wild Cat, do mountaineering, hiking, ice climbing.
