A colourful meal

Help me stylish people! My wife wants plates for Christmas. Bright colours. Please help!
So she finally dropped a hint. We live in the middle of nowhere in Canada so mail order is about my only option. She said she wants a bright colour "like red" so it doesn't have to be red. Just not bland white. This is close, but only gettig 4 plates (plus cups and saucers, I know). I'd like a set of 8, if not 12 plates. I can take or leave cups and saucers, Cost is not a huge concern. Just give me some products that aren't white please.

Yep, Fiestaware. Tons of colors, they work together if she wants to mix them up, and there are scores of different pieces. You can find them lots of places, but Kohl's often has them on sale.

Check out Crate and Barrel's dinnerware section, there's a lot of good stuff there.

Thirding Fiestaware. You'll love them. A site like this will allow you to buy individual pieces with individual colors.

I came in to mention Fiestaware as well. We're lucky enough to live within a short drive of their factory, so we go down to their outlet (which does ship to Canada) every year to add to our collection bit by bit. Nothing "matches" and yet it all does.

Fiestaware is not only colorful, but extremely sturdy. Ours has been through 12 moves and not a single piece has broken.

If you're willing to go a bit more upscale, there's the iittala Teema line.

Response by poster: FYI - I ordered 2 4-piece dinner sets of Fiestaware from the factory outlet. I got burned on the shipping (3 times the price of my purchase!) and I may yet have to pay duty, but I'm satisfied. Also great to know it should be easy to add to the collection years down the road. To all you Americans, they have free shipping for the next few days if you purchase $125 or more. I almost tried that to save, but it's a U.S. only promotion.

Excellent. It will last forever. My husband I have plates that his grandmother (who died 5 years ago at 95) got when she first got married. I think only one of them has ever been broken! When we got married we registered for the rest of the types of pieces in different colors. It's fantastic!
