Tagging in Movabletype?

Is there an easy way to do tagging in Movabletype?
Categories don't cut it - too many steps. I'd rather not use an outside tagging system like technorati or delicious. I found a plugin that looked promising (it's supposed to take keywords and autogenerate categories from them), but it doesn't seem to work for me (using MT 3.15). Is there some other plugin that does tagging, or has anyone cooked up their own system using the keywords field?

Response by poster: Cool! It hadn't occurred to me that there might be a PHP solution. It looks like it might be a bit server intensive, but I'll give it a shot.

I recently started using the "keyword" field for this purpose in MT, although I'm not using to internally link to other entries with the same keywords (I saw a how-to on that, but it was fiendishly complex). Instead, I'm using the Loop plugin to format each keyword as a link to the corresponding Technorati tag.

Response by poster: Well, the weighted keyword list got me half way there. It lists uses the entire entry text, not just the keyword field, but that was easy to fix. However, the trick now will be getting the tags to link back to the entries with those keywords, which the original script doesn't do. I'm still surprised that it seems no one has done this before.
(Here's what I have so far: PHP template source and output.)

Best answer: there's some other options, teg, that we'll be posting about soon on the website. if you can't wait a couple days, email me at anil at sixapart dot com and I'll give you some pointers.
