Bad Vista, No Wireless for You

How can I get a Lenovo laptop running Windows Vista to connect to a Netgear WGT624 v2?
I'm often at a friends' place, where they run a wireless network off of a Netgear WGT624 v2 router.
My laptop connects with no issues to any other wireless network (and I travel a bunch, so I have a significant amount of data here).
Several other Vista and occasionally XP computers have had issues connecting to their router. Macs, various flavors of Linux, and Windows 7 computers have had no issues. The router is running WPA Personal. Their password does have a space in it; we think that's unlikely to be the issue but I'm including the info for completeness.
I've rebooted my computer, deleted the entry for the network, put in the WPA Personal setting by hand. Once, somehow, it worked for a few hours. I've never repeated the feat. (I'm over here frequently).
Anyhow I'm here now and have a little brain space to try fixing this problem. We've got several other laptops, the router, and my laptop. What should we try?

Do they have access control (MAC address filtering) turned on?

In a similar situation with a Lenovo laptop, I had to force the adapter to 802.11b instead of 802.11g. Updating firmware, drivers, etc. and changing many other configuration settings made no difference.

Response by poster: Well, (yet another) restart of the access point seems to have given me temporary access. We'll see how long it lasts; if it isn't permanent, we might try the 802.11 switch.
Thanks for the suggestions!
