My husband is a over the road truck driver, need birthday gift ideas. He has a laptop and I have already gotten him a Yahtzee software game for it. Any suggestions for life on the road?
Best answer: An MP3 player filled with interesting podcasts and audiobooks.
Nice sunglasses.

Seconding satellite radio. I drive all the time, and I listen to it all the time. Except on my commutes, because I have WHYY local.
What are his sleeping arrangements like when he's on the road? Does he stay in motels, or sleep in the cab, or what? A good night's sleep always improves any drive. A nice pillow and a super-warm, compact blanket would work anywhere. Neck support pillow for naps in the pilot's chair? Lots of my travel gear is really camping gear. Wander through REI and see if there's anything that looks like it might make his nights more comfortable.
If you want a specific gee-whiz! product recommendation: I drive a car, but I always carry my Hennessy hammock with me whenever I drive. I dunno where he could sling it, as I mostly just car camp when I'm cross-countrying it for pleasure. But, they sling well to man-made structures with the right straps. He could perhaps even lash it to the truck itself somewhere.

3rding satellite radio. The one trucker I've ever known never left home without it.

I have been pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy the Sirius XM satellite radio stations. Especially the Classic Radio shows, Books, Broadway, and the sports stations. One highlight was listening to a Celtics-Lakers playoff game and a Red Sox game in the middle of Montana last June. I think there's a station just for truckers, too. I got a free 3 month subscription with my new car but when that expired, I gladly renewed. Great way to pass the time on long distance drives.
