good -> heaven, bad -> hell

Agnostic Quote Filter: I'm trying to find the exact quotation and its author... Something to the effect that man knows good and invents heaven, he knows bad/evil and invents hell. He knows some earthly and pathetic manifestation of a feeling/emotion/sentiment and creates extremes like heaven and hell from it.

I was thinking of Ingersoll but I can't seem to find that particular quote. Does this quote ring any bells?
