Help identifying a horror novel

This is for a friend who is looking for a horror book: Does anyone remember a horror novel from the late 70's or early 80's about a man who is excavating a tunnel into a secret chamber underneath his home? At the end of the book he enters the chamber and it contains a vengeful undead Native American creature. The title was something like The Chamber or The Tomb or The Ruins. Thanks for your help.

It doesn't ring a bell for me, but the "Name That Book" forum over at LibraryThing has a pretty high success rate and has helped me in the past.

The Terror in Hupman's Cave? The famed (well, internet famed) and creepifying Ted the Caver story is based on that story, which sounds a bit similar.
