Pristiq + Seroquel together

I've been prescribed Pristiq 50mg and Seroquel 25mg. Is this a good combination? What are the side-effects of combining these two?

Though some people can tell you their own experiences, side effects will vary person to person, and your pharmacist is the best person to ask regarding medication interactions.

I usually check drug interaction info with AIDS Meds' Check My Meds tool. They have most everything.

Then I check the drug profiles at Crazy Meds.

I don't think anyone on Metafilter is going to risk telling you this. Ask the doctor who prescribed these to you or the pharmacist who filled them for you.

Response by poster: MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

Crazy Meds is, IMHO, a very helpful resource for a layman's perspective on psychiatric medication--what neurotransmitters they target, what this means for you, side effects, and so on. There's a section on closely related antidepressant Effexor, and a section on seroquel, along with a board on the forums devoted to Effexor/Pristiq.

IAMNAD, but your doctor that prescribed these is. If you don't trust your doctor, change doctors.

Response by poster: Can these increase the risk of suicide?

internet fraud detective squad, station number 9 has it. I was on seroquel briefly, and it turned me into a zombie. It was not a good drug for me.

Bacillus, many antidepressants warn of sucidal thoughts as a possible side effect. Read the warning at the top here and if you are experiencing difficulties with these drugs, please talk to your prescribing doctor.

I wish I could favorite this a thousand times. The stress of worrying about whether or not these drugs can increase the risk of suicide sounds enormously wearing. Have you addressed your concerns with your doctor? If s/he is blowing you off, you need a different doctor. Presumably your doc prescribed these for a reason, but if you don't trust him/her, that's not a good sign. If you're not comfortable talking to your doctor, call the pharmacy where you filled the prescription and ask to speak with the pharmacist; this is, after all, what they do for a living.

Best of luck to you. This sounds really stressful.
