Is this a leather apron?

Is this a leather apron? What is it for?
I found this leather item in an apartment I am cleaning out. Is it an apron? I can tell you it is big enough to stick my head though. And there are zippers on each edge to total close the thing.
Would this be something a biker would wear? S&M? Welding? BBQ?
Thank You!

reads kink to me.

Could it be some sort of jacket for a dog?

How long is it? It looks like a leather halter top to me but if you're considering 'apron' as an explanation maybe it is too long to be that - maybe its a dress... Can you do a photo of you wearing it? Or at least with your head through the hole so we can get a better idea of scale?

It definitely seems like more of a fashion statement somewhere on the kinky-to-punk-rock axis than an item of any practical wardrobe utility. It doesn't strike me as particularly biker-ish, though.

It appears to be a somewhat fetish-y-inspired halter top. Could fall at many points on the punk/goth/steampunk/biker/clubwear spectrum.
Um, it's just a garment, folks, ain't nothing intrinsically sadomasochistically sexxay about wearing leather adorned with metal.

Response by poster: It was in my 75 year old single, single, uncles' place, next to his biker jacket.
Here is another picture with the legs buttoned, and a beer bottle for scale.

It's what you wear if you're the psycho killer in a horror movie.

Best answer: Aha posted before the bottle pic, full chaps!

Best answer: buttoned like that, would I be right in thinking that it would be um... buttless?
On second thought, did you zip the two pieces together like that? Maybe you have it done up wrong. If you unzip it and then zip the pieces up together as 2 separate times does that work? If it does I'd go with some sort of chaps.

Response by poster: Ness, I do not see how you would wear this on your legs, it only looks to cover a little of the upper thigh.

Best answer: next to his biker jacket? I'm guessing some sort of bike wear, but it's hard to tell from the photo.. snap it and post another picture?

It may be part of a leather jacket, these look like detachable arm pieces to me; I'd say you should try zipping each up separately, and looking around for another leather jacket the same color and material, they can perhaps be combined.

Response by poster: missmagenta, this is the way I found it. I assume they are not two separate pieces though as the buttons near the top only can snap into the opposite piece and what I would consider the part behind the neck, is actually tied together like a shoelace (through eyelets)

Hmm. My first thought is bar vest but the neck thingie is throwing me off. I'm voting for another photo.

With it unzipped would the 'neck' part fit around a waist? If you then zip each side to itself would they fit around thighs? (still vote for pics of you trying to wear it in various configurations ;) )

But those are leather chaps short. Also.

Just because he has leather chaps doesn't mean he's gay or a pervert or anything. They were found near his biker jacket... I guess the tiebreaker would be, does he/did he own a bike?

Best answer: These are straight up chaps, not shorties. You have them zipped wrong. Each "chap" zips to itself to create a leg all the way up to just shy of the crotch. The waist is usually high, above normal pants.

missmagenta - thanks for lumping "gay" and "pervert" together as though they are equally repugnant. Not to mention that S&M or kink does not equal pervert, but I digress.
No one ever said anything about said uncle being anything.
The fact remains that bikers don't tend to wear chap SHORTS. The SHORT kind of defeats the purpose of the leather chaps, which are meant to protect one's delicate skin from becoming one with the road in case of accident.

This looks much like my half-chaps (gaitors) would look if I happened to keep them zipped to each other for handy storage. I took a pic but right now my computer doesn't want to load my SanDisk, sorry...

thanks for ignoring the word 'or'. You were the one that said the OP might not like the answer, thus implying that there's something wrong with owning leather short chaps.

It's not unusual for motorcyclists to wear over-trousers for warmth, to keep dry, and for protection in accidents.
I personally haven't observed many bikers in chaps, but that might be because I'm in fairly wet country where if you're getting waterproofs, you want the protection of a full set of trousers.
Leather chaps are certainly stocked by motorcycle gear shops, and it can be a hassle getting to one's pockets and things when wearing full over-trousers, so I'm sure some bikers wear leather chaps.
