How do I clean an old brittle fiber-optic spray lamp?

We have an old fiber-optic spray lamp kind of like: this one. It was a favorite of my Dad's so we keep it in his memory even though it no longer rotates or changes color; the sprays are thin and very brittle (if you try and handle it, as I have had to do to comb craneflies out of it, they (the strands) break off like old hair), but it has grown very grey with dust and buildup over the years. I would like to make it clean again; any suggestions?

Have you tried chandelier cleaner? It is an aerosol spray which drips off - no touching involved!
