opera browser 10.53 compatible with mac OS 10.4.11?

i use mac os 10.4.11.
i recently upgraded my opera browser to 10.53. the documentation says it's compatible with os 10.4 as well as a power pc processor.
now each time i open the browser i get an "application unexpectedly shut" message. i hit retry, get the same message, hit retry again and it opens.
i've re-installed 10.53 twice, with no different results.
any ideas, please?
thank you.
To get some more information, try this:
open "Terminal" (which you'll find in the utilities folder in your applications folder) and type:
tail -f /var/log/system.log
Next, try to open opera again. See if there are any extra lines in terminal, and if they mean anything. Perhaps even just post them here.

I'd delete Opera, create a new user account on the machine, login to that, and install Opera from there to see if it's a problem with my account or my Opera profile. If so, there should be a way to delete the old Opera profile from your account. At least I know there is in Firefox, so Firefox thinks it's a brand new install with no previous user settings (cookies/bookmarks/history/cache/etc).
