Mediterranean holiday ideas...

So, my father, sister and I are planning a trip to Europe in mid-June. We need to work out quite where. I need to be able to fly in from London, the others to train or fly to wherever from Lyon. We need to go somewhere where we can stay for about 6 days, and there will be enough to entertain us there or in nearby town. I was wondering about Malta, my sister thought Genoa, my father thought St Tropez (our budget is not endless so perhaps not) Any suggestions?

A key question for travellers to Europe in mid-June: do you want be part of the World Cup, or do you want to avoid it?

If you're prepared to be surrounded by people following the footy, you can get by pretty well in Catalonia, whether on the French side in Roussillon or the Spanish side -- the Costa Brava isn't just Lloret de Mar. You can get flights to Girona or Perpignan from both London and Lyon.

Er, what do you like? Art? Architecture? Bars? Culture? Watching sport? Nature? Stunning scenery? Sitting on a beach? Theatre? Clubbing? City life? Country fun? Doing sport?

Europe is big, and 6 days is not long.

What SORT of place would you like to visit. I quite fancy Croatia for its stunning coastline. Malta is very nice though too, as is Corsica. But it really depends on what you want. More information please!

More background on what you and your family like to do would be very helpful. For me, with those parameters, I would spend a week in Provence- stay in Arles, have a rental car and make day trips to Avignon, Nîmes, Orange, the Pont du Gard and Le Luberon. Good food, interesting history, gorgeous scenery. You can also do a lot of that exploring on bicycle, if that's your thing.

But if you want clubbing and fancy shopping, that might not appeal to you.
