It's hard to play when you have no drive...

Looking for a good, fast repair shop for a dead PS3 optical drive in NYC or White Plains, please.

The optical drive on my PS3 died last night - the error it gave was somewhat ambiguous, but after swapping out the HDD, it's clear it's the optical drive.

I work across the street from Grand Central Terminal in NYC - is there a local repair shop I can drop it off at that is reuptable, instead of shipping it off for 6-8 weeks? Google has a few on Long Island, or some that don't seem quite on the up-and-up, so I am looking for first-hand experience. My home is in White Plains, NY, so that is another option if there's something nearby there as well.

Thank you!

Best answer: Video Games New York is my go-to place for video game stuff and should become yours too - support local business, you can't get your PS3 repaired at Game Stop!

Based on their Services list, this kind of repair is common on the PS3.

caveat: I've never had anything repaired there before.

Response by poster: I dropped it off there - it was only a quick hop down the 6 for me. Friendly enough, we'll see how fast / well they repair it.

Thank you for the tip, that is the kind of thing I was looking for!

Excellent! Glad it worked out for you. The staff there is great, friendly & much more knowledgeable than your average Game Stop or Best Buy employee, so I'm not surprised that the repair was handled well.
