Everyday cream for men with high SPF
March 8, 2010 3:23 PM Subscribe
I am looking for non sticky/oily/shiny facial cream with high sun protection (15 SPF or higher) that I can apply every morning before I leave home.
I don't want people to be able to tell from my face that I have applied cream.
I am 35 male, with healthy skin, might be a little bit drier than normal but over all at good health. Basically I'd like to preserve the current state.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you

Best answer: L'oreal Paris Skin Genesis is the lightest moisturizer with SPF that I've found

Best answer: I've found Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15 to be a good basic morning face lotion.
You may need to try several, because different lotions act differently depending on unpredictable factors of your skin. (what's non-greasy for me might be greasy for you)

Best answer: I have not used the men's line, but I'm ridiculously pale and am a fan of Neutrogena sunblock stuff generally because it's not greasy. Here's a 55 SPF oil-free men's face lotion product (the oil-freeness should keep it from looking dewy like you've applied lotion) and a 110 SPF, which might be overkill.

Best answer: Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion (SPF 30) is just what you're looking for, I think. It takes about ten minutes for your skin to soak it up, but once it does, you're fine.
It's also fragrance-free, which is a big selling point for me.

Best answer: Trade secret: The men's line is exactly the same as the women's, possibly with a different scent. Sometimes not.
Don't limit yourself to just "men's moisturizers". Smell them all!

Best answer: Aveeno Positively Radiant came highly recommended by friends and ended up being my go-to moisturizer. It's got just the right consistency, and it comes in a reasonably plain, fragrance-free package. For your SPF needs, it comes in both SPF 15 and SPF 30 versions.

Best answer: I've tried a number of spray on sun screens and have liked them all. They can be applied very quickly and aren't greasy. I'm using Bull Frog right now.

Best answer: If you have dry skin, you might want to stay away from the oil-free moisturizers and sunscreens. I have very dry skin and they make my face feel horrible.
Do you live in a location with Trader Joe's? My husband and I both use their Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion with SPF 15. It's cheap, not too smelly, and seems to do the facial moisturizing job quite well.

Best answer: As an oily-skinned person, I tried many face lotions over the years until my wife introduced me to
DDF Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew. It's got SPF 15 and doesn't leave me greasy. They have it at JC Penny if you'd like to try before you buy.

Best answer: Neutrogena UltraSheer DryTouch 110 SPF. Sounds a little overkill, but it works for me (female, very pale). No smell, goes on non-greasy, absorbs quick. I've even worn it for days at a time without showering, with multiple applications, and my skin didn't get greasy. (I was camping, not being disgusting)
The Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15 mentioned above makes my skin fairly greasy, so I only use it in winter. Just a data-point.

Best answer: Seconding the Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion from Trader Joe's. It's non greasy, doesn't smell, wears light, and is less than $5. I used to chock up $25 for oil-free, SPF lotion from Mario Badescu, which I had used for years. It worked well, but I was *elated* when Trader Joe's introduced their lotion recently - it does the job equally well, at a fraction of the cost.

Best answer: La Roche Posay's Anthelios and L'oreal's Revitalift UV are my favorites because they both contain Mexoryl, which is an excellent UVA blocker and hard to find (in the US.) The Revitalift may be less oily. Both are fragrance-free.

Best answer: Thirding Kiehl's! Although I've linked to a different "version" than spilon does above. It's the one I use, and I love it. Never oily, greasy, smelly, etc.

Best answer: I'm using Clinique SPF 15 mosituriser and am happy with the results albeit it's not cheap. It's not oily and stops me burning even when out on long bike rides.
Good question btw, I've been looking for the same thing for a while and will try the Kiehl's linked several times above next.

Best answer: I'm very, very fussy about SPF facial moisturizers. I seem to be weirdly sensitive to the smell and feel of certain sunscreens. However, I am the color of milk. I like this Purpose lotion.

Best answer: I use the Oil of Olay stuff; it's available unscented, is light and non-greasy, comes in SPF 15, and is relatively cheap.

Best answer: I use Aveeno Positively Radiant, and it has a very small amount of shimmery in it, so I'd not recommend it for this purpose.
HOWEVER! The Ultra Calming version doesn't have that problem, and it's both unscented and oil free. It comes in SPF 15 or 30.

All of her products are scent & irritant free, and the packaging isn't girly at all if that matters to you.
You can get a sample of just about any product on her site for less than a dollar, so you could try out a few different options before making a decision.

MuddDude uses the Neutrogena equivalent, because it smells a little more like sunscreen and a little less like moisturizer. Personally, I don't like the smell of it.
No one will be able to tell, unless you use way too much. A dab'll do ya.
