Computer will not shut down by itself

My computer automatically restarts even though i told it to shut down. Started after i installed a 8400gs PCI card in my computer.

I wanted to run a 3rd monitor from my computer. My 8800gt was already loaded with 2 monitors, so to add the third monitor, i got a 8400gs to fill an empty PCI slot. It was a better solution for my uses then changing the motherboard or getting a 5000 series card from ATI. But...

Now every time i tell my computer to shut down, it goes though the process, but when it finally shuts down, after a half a second, the LEDs on the front of the case turn on again. Then the computer begins to start up. The only way i can get it to shut off is holding the power button in and forcing it to shut down when it begins to restart.

I added the extra card when i was on the 7100 build of Windows 7. I did a complete reinstall with a legit version of Windows 7 (x64). I still have the same problem.

Thank you :D

Try Control Panel > All Control Panel Systems > System > Advanced System settings > Advanced tab > Startup and recovery > Settings and uncheck the "Automatically restart" box under system failure. You may be having a failure on a driver or process and not seeing it. This might give a stop error of some kind and point you in the right direction.

Check the event viewer for messages.

Response by poster: thats what im worried about. if removing the video card is the only solution. D; what effect would it have if i moved it to a different PCI slot?
