German music filter: can you make out what this kid is singing?

...or even better, the name of the song. His friends were singing along at some point, so it might be something that isn't hopelessly obscure. Sorry about the sound quality. Also, I only thought to record it when it was going to end, so it cuts off abruptly to applause.

I've uploaded it as a .wav to mediafire, at http://www.mediafire.com/?kaz5ztn00gn

I hope that works. Thanks!

I don't know the song but can make out some words:
"...zu schön um wahr zu sein" in the beginning (too good to be true)
The chorus sounds like "doch bin ich nicht dagegen" (but I'm not against it), which doesn't really make that much sense.
I couldn't find anything when googling for these snippets, and I'm not so sure about the chorus...

Any further information? It is almost impossible to understand a single word for me and I am a native speaker. The singer could be singing something like "Bin ich nicht verliebt" meaning "I am not in love". I have no idea what the name of the song could be.

Yes, the first part sounds like "zu schön um wahr zu sein". The latter still sounds to me more like "bin ich nicht verlieben" than "doch bin ich nicht dagegen".

Could also be "doch will ich nicht da leben" (but I don't want to live there). The second last syllable of the chorus sounds very much like an "a" to me, even if "verlieben" (or "verlieren", even) would be more conventional for song lyrics.
Any more context? What age were the guys and where in Germany were they from?

I've also sent the soundfile to a friend who's into this kind of music, I hope he'll be able to help us!

Did you already run this through Shazam?

I would mark it as "doch geht nicht da hin", which doesn't match anything on Google. More context might help.

or the repeated bit at the end could be "doch bin ich nich allein" but in a strong dialect so it sounds like "alleen"?

Slowly I start to understand how people end up identifying satanic and other strange references in pop songs ;-) Just two sentences and already five different interpretations.

To me, it sounds like "geh' es nicht dahin". Not Die Aerzte, is it? They're a popular band in Germany.

Maybe "bin ich nicht darin"?

But on further googling, I'm not coming up with anything that contains "zu schoen zu sein" AND "bin ich nicht darin".
posted by specialagentwebb at 7:57 AM on March 5, 2010

Ack, edit window! Nothing that contains "zu schoen um wahr zu sein" + "bin ich nicht darin".

Dukat: I followed that line of inquiry, but it's only an album (well, EP) title, and I didn't find a match in the lyrics.

Response by poster: they were teenagers and from the Bavaria area, I think.
posted by swimmingly at 11:21 AM on March 5, 2010

Hm, they don't sound that Bavarian - but it could be a song by Sportfreunde Stiller then, they're quite popular in Munich and often sung in that context. I didn't find anything with the snippet(s), though.
There's a song by Madsen called Liebeslied which contains the snippet "Viel zu schön um wahr zu sein und trotzdem gefällt es dir" but I'm afraid it doesn't fit with your recording at all...still waiting to hear from my fried though, he might be able to help us.

Response by poster: The Toad: thanks so much for your help! I've tried searching with "zu schön um wahr zu sein * nicht" on google.de (I don't speak a single word of German, which doesn't help) but to no avail :(

Swimmingly, my friend replied and he doesn't know what song it is, either...he says it's familiar but he can't identify it... Sorry!
