Blog Hoax

What was the name and site of the girl a couple of years ago, who claimed to be terminally ill, but was just making it up for the sake of her blog?

If the site is down, does anyone know the details?

Kaycee Nicole, but I don't know if there's still a site. There's a mf thread about her as well.

You might be thinking of Kaycee Nicole, however if so you haven't gotten the details quite right. There was no Kaycee Nicole, and the blog in question was written by a woman who claimed to be her mother. You'll find all the links and background info you could ever need within these search results.

She's still alive!

Well, the unknowing face of the hoax, that is. I've long wanted to interview her about the whole ordeal, now that it's four years later, to see what the aftermath was like.

I actually knew someone who did this, it was in TN where we were all raft guides. He worked in the gear store. He claimed to have stomach cancer and to be dying. Everyone was very solicitous, even down to putting together a final trip for him down the Grand Canyon. The time of his supposed death came and went and he was fine, and then somehow it all came out (I had moved to a different outpost by then) and he was shamed and moved away. It was very very strange.

There was some talk not too long ago about possible Kaycee sightings on other boards. I.e, Kaycee's creator was at it again, though under a new identity. Anyone have any more on this?

(FYI, that's my TAL story! I pitched it, helped report it, and am interviewed in it.)

Cancer just doesn't wrack the body the way it used to.
