What's the name of this movie that possibly aired on TechTV about a company abusing subliminal advertising technology?

The setting was very Tank Girlish— dystopian future where corporations rule the world. There was something about subliminal advertising. I think the supervillain wanted to abuse subliminal advertising technology to force people to do bad things. The movie was named after a character in a computer, I think. I don't think he was the narrator though. At some point, the main character is thrown into a Battle Royale type showdown where he has to kill or be killed.

It was probably late 80's or 90's. I'll try to recall some more, but I hope this'll be simple cause TechTV didn't air many movies.

Best answer: That sounds a lot like Max Headroom, but that was a tv series not a movie.

Best answer: Max Headroom was a 60 minute UK telemovie before it was a US TV series.

Best answer: I'm almost certain it's Max Headroom. According to Wikipedia, reruns aired on TechTV in 2001.

Best answer: Based on the descriptions of the episodes on Wikipedia, you may be remembering episode 7: Academy, which is described thusly:

Someone is "zipping" Network 23 — hijacking its satellites. While Blank Reg fights for his life on a Courtroom TV gameshow, Theora believes Bryce may be hiding something.
