Whats wrong with my Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 7000? It sometimes types random characters and other stuff. This keyboard is almost the same as the 4000 version as well in case you have one of those.

I got the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 7000 set with a keyboard and mouse and have only been using the keyboard. It is really a Ergonomic Natural 4000 with wireless instead of wired. It has been working perfectly for me until recently where it sometimes starts typing random letters even when nothing is held down and will not type what i want it too. Some of the combinations it likes to do are B.N, fn lock, and open browser buttons.

Now, I have treated this keyboard very well as far as I can tell and it is almost perfectly clean. Nothing has been spilled on it or anything, i airdust it quite a good deal. The only thing that might have any correlation to fixing it is taking out the batteries and letting it sit for 10 minutes or so and then using it again, but even that I am not sure of. I have also used the mskey intellitype diagnostics tool to see if it is actually registering weird characters, and when the keyboard is messing up its actually typing those characters.

To prove that this is a problem with the keyboard/receiver I also plugged the keyboard into my laptop which does not have intellitype drivers installed to just use it as a standard keyboard and it messes up there too.

So anyone have any idea what the prognosis is? If i need to get this replaced who should I call? Amazon where my dad ordered this or Microsoft themselves? I have luckily not ever gone through warranty stuff before and I dont have the card or box anymore those were thrown out a long time ago. There is a serial on the bottom of the keyboard but I am not sure what that will do.

Either way I am going to need to get this fixed/replaced fast :(. I get massive pains in my wrists typing on normal keyboards.

I have to ask the obvious - have you tried new batteries? (Sometimes removing and replacing the same batteries seems to make things work because your body heat gives the batteries a temporary boost).

Response by poster: Win 7 x64, and yes sorry I left that out but I have replaced the batteries and taken them out waiting for the charge to dissipate in case there were some capacitors or something like that.

If you wrote what you meant then you proved that there is likely no problem with the keyboard since a different keyboard and connection shows the same error. My first guess would be malware of some sort, my second guess would be a mangled system file.

Best answer: Could you be getting interference on your wireless connection? I would look around the room and start trying to eliminate possible causes. Another thing -- sounds silly -- but make sure you're not inadvertently leaning a part of your body on the keyboard or that there's not something on your desk rubbing up against it.

That said, I've used the Natural Ergonomic 4000 in the past and while it was amazingly comfortable, it was also buggy as all get out (with and without the Intellitype drivers on both Macs and PCs). Sometimes it would work perfectly for years, then it would drop letters, then a week later, it'd be completely normal again. Those particular series of keyboards are problematic, as you'll see if you read the Amazon reviews. I've been through at least 6 or 7 of them cause I love them so much when they work right, but finally gave up on them for good last year.

If you don't have the box and it's been longer than 30 days, you should contact Microsoft for warranty repair or replacement.

Response by poster: Thanks Lucky, yeah I guess I was really hoping for a miracle cure from asking this question but I guess deep down inside I knew I would be calling Microsoft=p.
