Creative Inspire 5.1 speaker system for computer

I have the Creative Inspire 5.1 speaker system but the nine-pin cord which controls on/off, volume, and bass is destroyed. Is there a way to make it work again, aside from a new cord which I can't find, even through Creative labs?

Is it just the cord? Did it get cut? Cut in half? How damaged is it?

If it's just wires (the remote and the connector are OK), I would open up the cable using an X-Acto knife, trying to cause as little additional damage as possible. The wires inside are likely color-coded. Strip off 1/4" of insulation from matching pairs and twist the copper together. Cover each connection with electrical tape. (Soldering and heat-shrink tubing would be better, but are not common household items)
Repeat until all wires are connected.
