A big block of nougat, and no rice paper - what do I wrap it in?

So I made some delicious (looking) nougat tonight as part of my xmas cooking, but I've not been able to find any rice paper for love or money. Getting it out of its container won't be a problem, but dear mefites what can wrap it in that won't stick too much, but still protect the nougat from itself and the world at large??

You could wrap it in squares of wax paper. Normally you wrap homemade caramels that way, and it doesn't stick too bad (if the recipe was cooked properly). if you were really concerned you could dust it with confectioner's sugar first.

Best answer: You should be able to find parchment paper in the baking/foil/plastic wrap section of your local supermarket. You could also look in specialty kitchen supply stores for it. Parchment paper should act enough like rice paper for your needs.

Best answer: Seconding parchment paper. Wax paper might stick, parchment won't.

My friend uses the communion host to make his Christmas nougat, which you can buy (apparently) in some Italian grocery stores. Otherwise, parchment paper once you've dusted both the nougat and the paper with sugar will work.

Best answer: Nthing parchment paper over wax paper. I've never had trouble finding this in my local supermarket.

Response by poster: Parchment paper was perfect - it stuck to the nougat and little else, thanks Mefites!

Alternatively, roll it in dessicated coconut or icing sugar. This will stop the surface from being sticky, and it can then be placed in/on almost anything.
