It's Hip to Make Bad Puns

I'm turning 25 in a few weeks and the party theme I've decided on is "Hip to be Square". 'Cause 25 is 5^2, get it? GET IT? Yeah, I know, I'm a dork. Looking for suggestions of how to incorporate that theme into a party.

I'm looking for ways to expand on the "square" theme. All definitions of square welcomed - mathematical, geometrical, cultural. And I'm open to any ideas - songs, foods, activities, costume suggestions for guests.

Let's hear it, HiveMind.

Finger sandwiches cut into perfect squares instead of the usual triangles.

A game of 4-square.

A square pizza, cut into squares.

Dress like an unfashionable and boring person from the '50s.

Instead of invitations saying "Be there or be square," yours should say "Be there AND be square!"

"Square root beer"

A game of four-square

Pocket protectors as party favors

You could have people dress up as Newton (for Newton's method of finding square roots) or Pythagoras (a^2 + b^2 = c^2 for a right triangle) or other famous mathematicians who may have squared anything at some point in their careers.

I think I'm dorky enough to be invited to your party :)

Best answer: Cut a square poster into 25 pieces and have 2 teams race to put it together. (back the poster by gluing to thin cardboard) winners get a Sponge Bob Square Pants trinket.

Wear a Mortarboard hat

Cakewalk on square tiles with the prize being a square cake (of course)

Rubik's cube races (nice!)

Hopscotch at the front door must be completed to gain entry.

Best answer: Chex Mix in bowls, heavy on the chex...or something like Cheez-its...

Smores for dessert, or Rice Crispie Squares.

If you play Hip to Be Square, make sure to also play Sesame Street's classic Hip to Be A Square. Other songs could include "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square."

You could watch episodes of Square One, or Cube.

For a side dish, you could dice root vegetables...

That's adorable.

Checkerboard-patterned stuff? Tablecloth, napkins, maybe even an actual game of checkers.

Your guests could come in checkerboard or grid-patterned clothing. Sometimes my friends will wear white button-down shirts with a light-blue grid pattern and it looks like fabric made out of graph paper. This could also work well with the "square" image.

Play board games with square-shaped boards, like Monopoly. (Also, culturally square!)

Cheese cubes and square-shaped slices of fruit for snacks?

And ice cubes to go in drinks.

Ooh, the ice cubes could go in the square root beer!

Square jello shots, if this is a drinking party.

That's a pain in the behind to put together - make them in a pan, cut them, find a 'sanitary' way to serve them. But I had to suggest it in case someone can come up with a reasonable way to execute this.

Something must be made in a square pan (brownies or cornbread) and cut into 3x3 or 4x4 servings.

Add to your playlist some music by Square.

Hang a poster of V-Jay day in Times Square.

Play music from the Buck 65 album Square.

ps. in a couple months I WILL be stealing this idea.

Play the soundtrack from the movie Times Square, which is totally awesome (the music, not the movie). It doesn't get any better than Suzi Quatro!!!

Make them in ice cube trays?

This sounds like the perfect occasion for Battenberg cake. And perhaps some square ravioli as well.
