Something to do on Halloween in Northern Virginia for a two-year-old?
My husband and I are (unexpectedly) going to be in Annadale this weekend with my in-laws. Trick-or-treating is pretty dead in their neighborhood so I'm looking for something to do with our two-year-old. Good neighborhoods to trick-or-treat in? Some other event? Thanks!

The Markoff haunted forest isn't too far of a drive, and it's tons of fun. (I live in Springfield...)
Also, my neighbors put on a haunted house that lots of people show up to. It's on Calamo St. in Springfield - just off Old Keene Mill Rd.

Recommended activities for two-year old: hang out at home with in-laws, maybe watch some television together. Really.

The City of Falls Church (around Mary Riley Styles Library) or McLean come to mind. It shouldn't be hard to find a trick-or-treating area.

I know where NortonDC lives in Falls Church--he's the full-size candy bar guy. If nothing else, you could say you trick-or-treated at NortonDC's house.

Best answer: Fair Oaks Mall will be hosting a "Mall-o-ween" event from 5:30 to 7:30.

Best answer: In Old Town Alexandria there is a very family friendly party (trick or treating, open houses, street party) on Lee Street between King & Franklin. There are also going to be more activities up & down King. We'll be there w/our 2 year old. Look for the yellow circle, blue triangle & red square.
I don't know Annendale so well, except for Markham & Little River Turnpike (my chinese supermarket of choice). Old Town is about 6 miles up Little River Turnpike (rte 236) from there.

Best answer: If you are looking for something to do with your wee one during the day, our newly redone local library is having a grand opening for Halloween that includes lots of activities for kids (face painting, balloon artist, moonbounce, story hour and crafts etc) including a kid's costume parade at 2pm. Wouldn't your kiddo think it was lots of fun to wear their costume instead of normal clothes in the afternoon? I would have. Free to all.
(Then come trick or treating in our neighborhood! Full sized candy bars -- it's true!)
