Looking for recommendations for sex therapy in Austin, TX.

I was going to post a long drawn out question about my issue and whether I should seek treatment, but screw it I'm committed. I need therapy for a sexual problem.

I've never done therapy before, but I've been told that finding the right person is most important. Since cost is second-most important, I'd like to find somebody in my network (BCBS) but I can't figure out the classifications for their website.

So:
1. Any recommendations for therapists in Austin, TX?
2. Failing that, any advice for how to find one in-network, or how to search the BCBS site? I can't figure out the classifications.
3. Since I'm here, any stories or advice regarding delayed ejaculation with erectile dysfunction?

One way to go about this is to ask your PCP for a referral. Another way is to go see a regular therapist, one that accepts your insurance, and discuss your issues. If the therapist cannot help you, they will refer you to someone in the community.

Gianna Viola is a therapist in Austin, TX that accepts BCBS.

P.S. I don't think you need a "sex therapist". What you describe is typically handled by a regular therapist that has experience in helping clients with sexual dysfunction.

Good luck! :)

I think a sex therapist is actually a great choice. The average therapist is not, in fact, experienced in helping clients with sexual dysfunction, and it may be even more difficult to find a "regular" therapist with that experience than to find a sex therapist (who is basically guaranteed to know at least some way to work with your issues) who will meet the other qualifications you need.

This is the directory of American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT, the most prominent professional organization for sex therapists) members in Texas: http://www.aasect.org/results.asp?state=TX

I'd recommend starting with the names on the list, and finding out if they take your insurance, and if they don't, ask them to refer you to someone who might. They will know other sex therapists in your area.

Though I have never received treatment from him, I can vouch for the character and quality of John Haney, PhD who specializes in treatment of sexual issues. I'd direct-link to his page, but his Crossroads Counseling site navigation is a bit wonky.
