Recommendations for online design class?

I'm looking to take an online design class. Not specifically web design, or graphic, game, etc. but something that will teach the basics of design in general. Any recommendations?

I work at a computer job that involves coding applications for others and creating web pages. I also enjoy drawing and creating flyers, tangible crafts, and other artsy things, so while I could directly benefit from a web/gui design class, I was thinking that something I could apply to my hobbies too would be better.

I also wouldn't mind online certificate/degree programs for this "general" design, or any good resources like web sites, books, etc.

The Design of Everyday Things changed the way I think about design and interact with the world of man-made objects. It might be less of a how-to manual than you're looking for, but if you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend it. It's relevant for creators and users of any type of designed object--from software to doorknobs.

I went looking for the same thing recently, to not much avail. I'd also be interested in any responses that could offer advice on something more involved and more planned than your standard one-page tutorial or ramshackle inspiration gallery.

One thing I did find along the lines I was after was this, which might be of some use to you too.
