Mac glitch

My machine (OS X 10.6.1) has some sort of glitch I can't fix. Windows selecting and deselecting, like blinking. Please look at the videos and see what you come up with...

My mac has some sort of glitch where some windows select and deselect themselves, like blinking but only once, not flashing.

The problem can get irritating when you are in a Finder window deleting something only to find out you deleted something else because it switched windows on you.

I have tried deleting caches, preference files (healthy and corrupt, running plutil), disabling certain apps or preferences. I can't figure it out. I tried reproducing the problem in the other users on the mac by carrying over some preference files.

-It doesn't happen to other users on the same mac.

-The glitch transferred over from Leopard to Snow Leopard (not a clean install, obviously).

Here are the videos:

I have been able to replicate only the Safari glitch. Please help!

Do you have any window enhancement software running like Unsanity? What other software is running as login items? I would disable ALL your mods/toolbar apps/third party preference panes. If that fixes things, enable them one by one until you can reproduce this glitch.

This is something that would personally force me to do a clean OS X install within 24 hours if I was unable to find a fix. Looks extremely frustrating.

If you don't want to do a complete fresh installation but you're still flummoxed, create a new user for yourself and copy all your data over to that user. Kill the old user once the new one is running the way you like.

Response by poster: plasticbugs, your suggestion made me look into the preference pane again. I'd tried out most apps but not all of them.

It turns out it was just Growl!!!

I've spent almost 2 months on this damn problem, I can't believe it was that simple. Even now, I don't want to admit that its solved since it was so easy to turn it off. I could even reproduce the problem exactly with each enabling and disabling of the app.

Damn app..... I don't even need the stupid thing. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.
