How to build Library Facebook applications?

I'm looking for a guide on developing Facebook Applications, ideally with a Library context in mind. I've read about several examples (e.g. WorldCat and several university based examples). My initial idea is to build a catalogue or article search tool. Other ideas on library Facebook applications are also welcome. I came across a great article on this in the Code4Lib journal but I'm looking for more instructions.

Why does it need to be a Facebook app? If you want to build a web-based search tool for a library catalog, just build that. If you're not leveraging the social graph in any meaningful way, I'm not sure why your app needs to use FB.

Yeah, the WorldCat app is pretty lame for the reasons mkultra lists. You should think about why you want to do this with Facebook.

Response by poster: The motivation behind using FB is to go where the users are; nothing stops them from going directly to the Library website. I am thinking it could be a first step or experiment into embedding Library services into the social media that is already in use. I want to leverage the social graph as mkultra suggests. If not FB, then what might you suggest?
