Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme in NYC?

What are some good New York City (and environs) culinary herb and spice shops?

Midwestern Foodie looking for culinary herb and spice shops to visit in NYC during an upcoming trip. Places along the lines of The Spice House in Chicago are what I'm searching for. I'm aware of Penzey's (yes, I know there's a family connection with The Spice House) in Grand Central station. Particularly looking for places that grind, process, and mix their own herbs, spices, pepper, salt, etc.. on site. Google-fu turns up a lot of noise, including grocery stores and other places that don't really focus on herbs and spices as their specialty. NOT looking for holistic/new age/herbalist shops.

Best answer: you can't really beat trufette/sos chefs, on avenue b near 7th st, it's the retail arm of the company that a lot of chefs get their supplies from in the city. asian communities tend to all have a few extensively stocked spice shops of their own, would you be interested in any of those?

Seconding sos chefs.

Also, I know it's not in the city, but I've ordered from Le Sanctuaire and found them to be incredibly fresh. The owner used to have a shop in Santa Monica.

I had some free time today so I went down to S.O.S Chefs - holy cow dont miss it. Super fun and you can bring home a burlap sack of saffron if you want.

You might also enjoy the Union Square Green Market - union square, Monday Wednesday, Friday and Saturday
