Help me explore men's fashion in NYC

I'm getting sick of buying all my clothes at Banana Republic. Hit me up with some unknown men's clothing stores in Manhattan or Brooklyn. I know H&M and Zara and the high end places and the outdated department stores. I'm guessing that what I'm looking for is on the LES or Williamsburg or Dumbo or something like that.

I'm thinking that this is for casual wear, not work wear. I'm straight, mainstream (whatever that means), and have an athletic build. I'm not a clubber and am not looking for that type of thing.

Price doesn't really concern me right now because I just want to see what's out there. If it's too expensive I'll move along.

Thanks!

I don't think there's anything unknown in Manhattan or Brooklyn, but check out the New York shopping guide at Superfuture for a map and list of mid- to high-end shops. (Ack, nevermind - it used to be free, but now it's $20 for a pdf. Meh.)

Best answer: I think you hit it on the head with the neighborhoods you mentioned. Nolita, LES, and Wburg probably have the most small independent meanswear stores. They are all relatively small neighborhoods, so just wandering about should do. I think hitting Soho would be worthwhile as well.
In Nolita, between Houston and Kenmare starting with lafayette over to Elizabeth willl get you the bulk of the small shops there.
On the LES, mainly Orchard and Ludlow streets below Houston, there are are a few.
You can check out Yelp for specifics. I don't think their list is comprehensive, but it will give you an idea.

Best answer: I'd check out Uniqlo and Freeman's Sporting Club.

Best answer: If you're on the LES and aren't too tall you might find something at Klurk (klurkny.com) I liked it enough that I'm going to blog about it :)
