How to prepare some snail shells that I got from the mountain so I can make some kind of basic jewellery from them?

I found some nice snail shells in the mountain and want to make something for my girlfriend. I know they are somewhat fragile so I think I should do something to them first and I don't know how to do this and can't fiund good info on the net? I think I am not going to put holes into them because I don't have the tools for this but I still want to make them more harder so they can bang into each other when on hand or neck.
Any good tutorials or advice?

Best answer: Cool idea. Google leads to here and here. Apparently the key word is electroforming, and there seem to be lots of tutorials for it. Awesome.

Response by poster: Thanks, this really is something impressive but unfortunately won't work for me because the girl's skin is sensitive to any kind of metal except silver.
Anyways I was looking for some kind of just lacquering the things and what is the best way to do this, how to put it in the lacquer and how to dry it and how to choose some thinner lacquer so it doesn't look bad and how to make it even and this kind of stuff...
