Where can I buy foo dogs in LA?
Specifically, I am looking for larger ones (around 2'-3') meant to stand alone, not bookshelf or table top sized ones. There are a few garden supply shops that can special order them for a princely sum but surely there is a store in Chinatown or Monrovia or Alhambra that has them for a good price available to pick up? Where would I find this magical shop?

Agree with jabberjaw, but if you are on the westside (or just get lost in the area around Downtown), I'd recommend calling the Bodhi Tree in West Hollywood.
But if you can make it down to Chinatown, go! And have some dimsum for me at Ocean Seafood before or after you shop.

Best answer: There is a big Asian garden supply yard one lot north of the San Gabriel Nursery (itself a destination). In Chinatown, I have noticed a place with large concrete sculptures outside, on the northern edge of the neighborhood, at Hill and Bernard. A quick Google streetview reveals it is called Grand Union Stone Inc., and it appears to be Foo Dog Heaven.

It also wouldn't hurt to just go to the Chinatown indoor-outdoor booths on Broadway (Yelp! link) and have a look. Chinatown shopping is fairly localized on the same block, and once you're there it's easy to just walk shop to shop.
