Big Hair, Flares and Bad Guys

Movie Filter - 70's / early 80's, Disney-esque? intrepid kids getting caught up in some mischief.

I think it was a British film, and one of the only things I really remember was some of the action (kids being chased) taking part on a large boat near the end. I do remember them utilising things to battle the bad guys, like marbles making them trip over and trip wires.. impressive stuff to a young lad.

Put me out of my misery, please.

Sounds like The Goonies.

Might have been been In Search of the Castaways... that was Disney, involved kids, boats, bad guys, and Haley Mills was in it.

"Booty traps"!

Yup, sounds like The Goonies.

Response by poster: No it wasn't The Goonies. I know the Goonies. It wasn't In Search of the Castaways either. It was more modern than that and primarily set on land. The boat was just used as somewhere for the kids to run onto at the end of the film providing opportunites for them to do battle with the bad guys.

What kind of boat? Goonies was on a pirate ship. What kind of big hair? And how was it British? Were there British accents? I don't remember any from The Goonies.

It's probably the Goonies. I recommend re-watching it to appreciate just how awesome it is. If you can't take the whole movie, the music video of Cyndi Lauper singing the theme song is pretty good.

Sorry, should have previewed. The Cyndi Lauper video is still good, though.

No way in the world it was Hook, right? About a decade later than you thought, but it involves The Lost Boys, who are very mischievous and trap-setting, as well as marbles. ("I've lost my marbles!")

And a big ship at the end.

Response by poster: LOL NO PIRATES ! The boat was a white painted steel cargo ship. nothing pretty. the kids were non-descript 70's adolescents as far as I can remember. The group typically made up of a couple of guys and a couple of girls, I think.

It might have started out with them finding something in a mansion in the woods, but that could be another movie. gawd knows.

Don't get frustrated with me for suggesting a movie with no boat but maybe you're thinking of Candleshoe? It's Disney, 70s, tough boys and girls (including jodie foster!), a mansion, bad guys, hijinks, Americans and Brits, a plot that revolves around a dead sea captain (of boats!) and the kids chasing the bad guys onto a train. Maybe?

Best answer: Guessing, but perhaps a Children's Film Fondation effort? 4D Special Agents or Night Ferry?

Also possible (although from 1964, it's Disney, and has teens, bad guys, and fighting on boats): The Moon-Spinners.

Fondation? Sorry! Children's Film Foundation. Their pages for 4D Special Agents and Night Ferry.

For some reason, this description brought Pippi Longstocking to mind for me. I don't remember if it has all of those features you described, though!

Response by poster: Thanks all. It sounds like 4eyes might have nailed it one of those, but I'll need to do some sleuthing.

As an aside, I found this interesting website where you can post your snippets of memory and they will try and solve it for you - worth a read just for some of the hilarious descriptions of what people remember.

FIND THAT FILM
