Help Me Find a Vera Brittain Quote

I am looking for an exact quote by Vera Brittain which I believe is from Testament of Youth. The gist of the quote is "Thinking is work, and people have to learn to appreciate thinking."

As of yet, I have not been able to locate it. Does anyone know the exact quote, or possibly remember it better than I do?

I just searched the text of Testament of Youth on Google Books for "work" and got nothing like what you quote. Good luck finding it!

Best answer: Is this it? (About a third of the way down the page.)

Well, languagehat opened the door and I walked though it, but, you're very welcome.
