Please help me complete a quote that I acutally found and then lost on Metafilter: "Pity and praise come and go....to stand like an oak tree in the midst of them all." - Buddha

Thats all I have from this quote attributed to Buddha. I found this on Metafilter when I first joined. I was not yet hip to all the bookmarking features that make Metafilter so valuable.

Thanks guys.

I can't find it on MeFi, but I think the exact quote you are after is:

"Praise and blame and loss, pleasure and sorrow come and go like the wind. To be happy, rest like a great tree in the midst of them all."

This is the only oak/Buddha related quote I found on Metafilter.

"Kaoru asked to open the chapel where the Eighth Prince practiced and, clearing the dust away carefully prayed to Buddha. 'Beneath the oak I meant to search for shade. Now it has gone and all is vanity.'"

However, you may want to look at this.
