Telus broke my legs

I have a Samsung SCH-A950 phone. Telus has crippled it. Has anyone figured out how to subvert the ringtone download store and use mp3 ringtones?
Things I have tried already:
-BitPim (doesn't know the phone exists when I plug it in)
-Renaming an mp3 to .mid and putting it in "my sounds" on the phone (option to set as ringtone does not exist with telus firmware)
-Mobile web download sites (telus either blocks the download or doesn't let me set the file as a ringtone if it succeeds)
disclaimer: What I'm doing isn't illegal, I'm using mp3s to which I own the copyright.

Try Myxertones.com - worked for my last-year's-model samsung...

Have you tried howardforums.com? I've never had a Telus phone they couldn't help me crack.

The BitPim site claims that it works with your phone.
I will say that when I wanted to use BitPim with an old Razr, it appeared that the software didn't work. A little Googling showed that I needed to either download the Motorola Developer Drivers or hook up using Bluetooth.
I'd second diving into howardforums.

Third vote for www.howardforums.com. They are the number one place for these things.

When I had a Telus 1950 I wasn't able to find a way to change the ringtone.

TO something other than what they gave me, that is.

Response by poster: tiamat, clearlynuts, Zozo: I've been all over howardforums before this, and it's full of people who are as frustrated and unable to do anything as I am with the telus-crippled SCH-a950 firmware on the phone.
Aquaman: myertones, like every other ringtone site I've tried, just allows me to download the sound file to my phone, but like any other sound file, it can't be set as a ringtone. The option just doesn't exist. The ringtones menu options consist of "GO TO THE TELUS RINGTONE STORE" and "GO TO THE TELUS RINGTONE STORE."
