How do I automatically transfer skype contacts and history from an old account to a new one?

I'd like to change my skype user name to something more professional and keep my old contacts and chat history. I don't want to manually ask my contacts to add me again, and I'd especially wouldn't like to lose my chat history. How can I transfer these (automatically) to the new account?

Bonus question: is it possible to merge/synchronize skype chat history between two computers running skype with the same account?

Best answer: I looked into this at one point and I don't think this is possible. However it is possible to keep your login name the same and change your profile name which will then be how it shows up on people's Contact Lists and they can find you that way on search. I know this isn't specifically what you asked, but I'm pretty sure there's no wayin the Skype universe to do what you are asking otherwise.

Response by poster: I asked skype about this, and as Jessamyn said, it's not possible.

We understand that you wish to change your username and keep your existing contacts and chat history.

Firstly, it is not possible to change a username. You can only change the "Full Name" that you added into your profile at time of registration. For changing the full name select File -> "Edit My Profile..." Make the changes you wish and then update it.

To change a username you must create a new user account in Skype. We do not suggest you change your username if you have purchased any services as they cannot be transferred to another username.

Upon creating a new username, you will loose any contacts you may have had in your original account. To solve this you can log in with your old account to one computer, and with your new account to another, then you can send your conatc list to your new account from your old account.

Secondly, unfortunately, you can't synchronize Skype chat history between two computers.

However, you can save your chat history in HTML format by writing the following command in the Chat window: /htmlhistory.
