Color me baffled

Anyone know anything about Freehand MX color management on a Mac?

I'm pretty savvy with the theory and practice of color management. I use Photoshop CS3, Bridge, iView MediaPro, Preview, a few others, and color is consistent throughout on screen (except for Firefox, which doesn't manage color).

But FreeHand: any images I import have the washed-out look of non-color-managed documents. No matter what settings I try in Preferences, nothing changes. (I have selected ColorSync, by the way.)

Even inputting bizarre settings (Like Adobe RGB for the Monitor setting) produces no changes on screen.

My output is simply to a pdf file, which gets digitally printed, but this output obviously has the washed-out look. Exporting as a jpg is washed-out too.

Through Google I have learned that FreeHand color management is quirky, but to my eye it looks non-existent.

Firefox 3 actually does support color management; you just have to turn it on. In the address bar type "about:config" without the quotes, click past the confirmation dialog, go to , "gfx.color_management.enabled". Double click that until it says "True", then restart Firefox.

I don't have Freehand on any of my Macs, but can you check and see whether RGB is selected for new documents in your preferences rather than CMYK?
