DSL troubles

I have an Embarq DSL 660 modem (bridged) connected to a Dynex DX-WGRTR Wireless-G Broadband Router. The computer connected directly to the router can access the internet, but not my wireless laptop. What do I need to change to get my wireless to connect to the internet through my router and the DSL modem?

Do I need to clone the connected pc’s MAC address, or just connect with PPPoE, or a stactic IP or something else with Embarq? I have never set up a router with DSL only with a cable modem. Thanks.

You need to modify your router's settings to PPPoE and the username and password provided by your DSL provider. Once that is set in the router, your Internet connection will be available to any wireless device that connects to the network.

Best answer: Are you trying to have a desktop wired directly to your router, in addition to a wireless laptop? If the hardwared desktop can already reach the outside world, then login details for your ISP aren't an issue, it's already doing that part of the process. Make sure you have the wireless on the router enabled, and configured. Also make sure your wireless adapter in your laptop is set to DHCP (assuming the router is as well).

If you can get to your ISP, and thus the outside world (such as metafilter), from a hardwired machine (ethernet cable from PC to router), but not a wireless device (your laptop), then the issue is within the router's configs for wireless, not in any login details for Embarq
