In between Milwaukee and Chicago. Friend and I want to hang out tomorrow (10-10-08) in one or the other. Any cool idea's for something to do.
Do you plan on spending the day "in between" because if you are there are always the three legs of the Kenosha County economy: Beer, Cheese and Porn.

There is a cool state park, "Bong Recreational Center," not far off of I-94 that has some great hiking. (It's supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow here).
Kenosha is pretty cool. If you are into drinking, try TG's over on 7th Ave for lunch and beer and go from there. Hike the lake front, explore downtown (there is an awesome toy store down there, among other unique stores) and a lot of different styled bars, from Bukowski-dive bars to upscale wine bars. And you can always take a ride on the trolley.
Or you explore downtown Racine, which has a few museums, thanks to Sam Johnson...... you can thank him for the zoo here, too..... which is cheap and interesting...... or you could even take the Johnson tour of the J&J facilities, which sounds dreadfully boring, but is actually quite interesting, as Frank Lloyd Wright designed some of the corporate buildings. (There is also the FLW designed planetarium, which looks like a space ship, but I'm not sure if they still have showings open to the public without an appointment.) Downtown Racine (Main Street) still has the old-world small-town feel and attitude as well......
There is also Six Flags down in Gurnee (Northern IL) if you are into amusement parks...... I believe "Fright Fest" starts this weekend, if it hasn't already.....
There's also great bicycle paths between Chicago and Racine. Well, north of the state line. That is "between Chicago and Milwaukee...." Kenosha and Racine

It depends on your definition of cool and the time. I can tell you cool things to do in Milwaukee during the day but that will be my opinion of cool. Wander around the third ward, go to the art museum to see the interactive art exhibit, see comedy sportz, or wanna see yozhik? Pick up a free Shepherd Express or Onion when you get here to see plenty of other things to see or do.

MikeMc sort of beat me to it, but there's always the MARS CHEESE CASTLE! Good for all the kitsch you'll ever need. And there's some pretty excellent mini-golf across the street. Near all those places selling magazines and books that I wouldn't know about.
Seconding the Fright Fest at Six Flags. I went there a while back, and they really pull out all the stops. Dress warmly. The average temperature at the top of the hill, just as you begin to accelerate, is roughly 300 degrees colder than at ground level.

Personally, I'd go to Milwaukee, but I am waaayyy biased. Anyway, there's the Harley Museum, Art museum, the Zoo, the Mitchell Park Domes, riding bikes on the lakefront, taking tours of the Miller and/or Sprecher breweries.
Ah, I just saw that your "day out" is today, so you're probably already wherever you decided to go, but maybe this will help in the future. Post again and let us know what you decided.
