How do I change settings in Hotmail's Deleted folder?

Hotmail question: I do not want to permanently delete any email from my Deleted folder, yet it appears that the Deleted folder is keeping things for only five days, then removing them. For example, yesterday my Deleted folder contained emails from as early as 1 October, and today the oldest one is 2 October. How do I tell Hotmail to stop removing items from my Deleted folder? I want them for archiving's sake (and no, I'm not using Outlook).
Don't delete. Create a new folder, and you can manually move your archives there.

Using your Deleted folder to store emails you want to keep reminds me of someone I once knew who kept all his documents in the Recycle Bin (it kept his desktop tidy). In other words, you're doing it wrong.
Your Deleted folder exists for the purpose of allowing you to rescue things you shouldn't have deleted. It's not an archive. It's just a short-term safety net.

Switch to gmail and never delete another e-mail again. Instead it "archives" them, and all your e-mails are just a quick gmail search away. I think currently you get about 7214.548097 megabytes for free (increases all the time). Or, do what doorsfan said.

Seconding Grither's idea... and you can forward your current Hotmail to Gmail, and never lose a message. Takes some finagling, but google will point the way to the software connections.

As an e-mail systems engineer, we run across people all the time using deleted items as a filing place, they wonder why it gets cleaned out when our maintenance tasks get kicked off.
Why do people even think this is a good idea? It's labeled Deleted items for a reason.
