Where to vacation in US Southwest?

Looking for a trek/hike/paddle/tour in the US Southwest for Christmas '08.

Need a warm, sunny break from Vancouver rain over Christmas. Wife is a teacher, so needs to be over Christmas.
Any ideas on a packaged type trip, or perhaps an area that is located near several sites that we can do on our own.

Flagstaff often has snow in the winter, although if you just want a break from the rain, that might still work. You might try Tuscon, Phoenix, or Las Cruces. All of these have hiking nearby. If you want to paddle somewhere warm you could go to Big Bend National Park in Texas, but that´s not really in the southwest.

Vegas. Apart from Vegas proper, there are Red Rock and Valley of Fire right outside your door. Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Joshua Tree/Mojave, Zion, all within stiriking distance. And of course, San Diego and Los Angeles are 4-ish hours away.
