Other than uninstalling, is there any way to stop the RealOne player starting every time I put a cd in my drive even though I've unticked all the boxes and asked it not to.

Yes: uninstall it.

Then install Real Alternative, which is a RealPlayer clone without the crap.

Real Alternative doesn't work for OS X, does it? If not, is there a similar option for us macfolk?

Uh. fionab, the mac version isn't riddled with crap trying to take over your computer.

Yeah, but I've found that it doesn't always seem to work with clips online. Maybe it's one of my settings. Thanks!

I think at some point I had 4 or 5 different programs fighting it outover my file extensions. It was quite amusing, but re-envorces my dislike of how wndows works.

Generally if you have problems with Real content on websites under OS X, it's because the website builders have used wonky browser sniffers or weird javascript or something along those lines, fionab. Sometimes you can go into the source code (in Safari, hit Apple-Option-v) and find the .ram or .rm file or whatever, and just copy and paste it directly. Or try an alternate browser (Safari, FireFox, IE 5, OmniWeb).

Well, if you're using XP, and you've used Tweak UI to disable the autostart, and you've unchecked it's CD associations within Real One player, you should open windows explorer, and go to Tools>Folder Options> File Types.

Right at the top you'll have Audio CD, and then you click on the Advance button, and it'll have a window with a list of "actions" and any associated with Real, you could probably get rid of by selecting the action and clicking Remove.

You could possibly update to Real 10, which is less abusive - I have it and don't have the problem you mention, which I did suffer with Real One (which is how I know what I just told you).

Response by poster: I've installed Real Alternate with few ill effects so thanks for the tip. I'll keep the Real 10 idea in mind if I have any issues...
