Help me name my new kittens

Help me name my new kittens! (More inside....)

This is Cat 1.

This is Cat 2.

Cat 2 is friendly and more playful. Cat 1 slept on the ride home while 2 tried to get out of the box. When 2 met my boyfriend, the first thing she did was scratch him. They're both female.

Names of the literary/geek persuasion preferred but not neccesary.

Make like Rocky Balboa and call them Cuff & Link.

I like the names you've already given them: cat 1 and cat 2. you can call them one and two for short.

Radar? Lulu? Zelda? Ingrid?
posted by jjray at 7:57 PM on July 7, 2004

Response by poster: I actually had the thought of just calling them "alpha" and "beta".
posted by amandaudoff at 7:57 PM on July 7, 2004

Nuku Nuku and Lum. Because when we get our kittens there's no way th' wife's gonna agree to anime names, and I want someone to use them...

How about Alpha and Omega? Almost counts as literary.

Sherlock for the quiet one and Watson for the one running around?

Yay kitty pictures by the way.

We have a winner.

Spotty 'n Streaky!
Slash 'n Burn!
Laverne & Shirley!
Lucy & Ethyl! (Actually, a great choice here -- you can always scream, "Honestly, Ethyl!" whenever anyone else gets scratched.)

Krazy and Ignatz? Archie and Mehitabel? (Krazy and Mehitabel would be species-consistent, but who needs to be that literal?)

If I had two cats, I'd call one Feck, and the other Drink. But that's because I'm strange.

Ignignokt and Err. Ignignokt being the ornery one.

Charlotte and Emily, after the Brontes.

or Orlando and Dalloway, after Virginia Woolf characters.

(these courtesy of Gesamtkunstwerk, who is too laden with cats to get up from the couch.)

Typical names for my cats include Punk, Venom, Roadie and Chainsaw.

Sounds like you have a Mistress and a Dominatrix, or for short, Misty and Domino.

Response by poster: FWIW, my last pair of pets were named Eleanor and Henry. As in queen and king.

So far, I'm liking Sanchez and Lulu and my own thought of Franny and Zooey. (Gender be damned.)

I'll decide in the morning. Get yer votes in now! Be known as the MeFite who named my kitty!

Best answer: Cat Stevens? Cat Mandu? The Great Catsby? Cat Atonic?

EEE! Wee calico! (We have two of the little beasties, named Mabeline and Amelie)

Um, the favorite name I ever gave to a cat was Mr Bungle, a female who liked to shit everywhere.

Lysistrata and Antigone.

Response by poster: Okay, that's it. Forget the morning. The Capn has won.

We've got Cat Atonic (the quiet one) and Cat Astrophe (the insane one).

Thank you Ask Metafilter, and good night.

Matt and Howie.
Gog and Magog.
Cain and Abel.
New User and Signup.
Or my default name for all pets, Useless.

Love animals. Love my dog. He's just, you know, useless.

Response by poster: Hell, dobbs. I'm sure I'll have another chance to use your Sanchez.

Er.

Romulus and Remus or Castor and Pollux.

Or go for the Roman/Greek god/goddess diads-

Minerva and Athena
Vulcan and Hephaestus
Venus and Aphrodite
Zeus and Jupiter
Juno and Hera

I used to have a cat named Boing, and I miss her a lot. I think it's a pretty good name.

My favorite cat name ever was Pandora: "... like all women, [she] was possessed of a lively curiosity. She had to know what was in the box." As for a female companion, hm.

Aphrodite? *cough* Ariadne? (she was known for playing with yarn after all) Circe? Iris? Electra? Sappho?

A friend of mine once suggested the perfect name for two kittens with very distinct traits. It would be necessary for one to be slightly obese and one to have a rather feisty disposition.
He would have named them King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry.

Trostsky, Marx, Hobbes and Comte. Or shadow, like my cat. Most of the time I call him cat.

Call one "Cupid", and the livelier one "Stunt".
And then have impossible fun trying to call them both to come for their dinner.

Wow. This thread is a combination AskMetafilter bonanza, as it employs both the "help me name my..." and the "my kitty needs your help" categories. Well done!

I vote for thing 1 and thing 2. From The Cat in the Hat. Even though you've picked names already.

My oldest cat's mother was tiny and had too many kittens in the womb, so she was packed in there and was born a tail that's a little zig-zagged, so she was named.....ziggy.

The best cat name I heard was Fathead. Because he had a fat head.

iconomy - My cats are already named "Thing One" and "Thing Two". (Based on their early kittenhood tendency for knocking things over.) Eight years ago, I knew you were going to suggest this, but I couldn't wait around for you to make the suggestion.

There are only two names: Itchy and Scratchy.

They are both literary and geeky.

My suggestions:

Throatwobbler Mangrove (Yacht for short?)
and
Boot Walrustitty (Boots for short?)

Though, if you're not into Monty Python, then perhaps not...

One of our fellow Mefites has cats named Humbert Humbert and Lolita, which I think is cool.

I once had two goldfish named Curiouser and Curiouser.

I have a good cat-naming story: my then-girlfriend and I had a new litter of kittens, one boy and two girls. I named the boy Holden (after Catcher in the Rye), she named the girls. One she named Frances Bean (after the Cobain child, we called her Franny for short) and the other she named Phoebe (after the character on Friends). I was thrilled. She didn't realize that she was completing the Salinger-character set, as she'd never read Franny and Zooey or Catcher (Pheobe is Holden's sister).

Maybe you had to be there...

My cats were named Shashlik and Masha.

My aunt and uncle's cats were named Gartok, Rana Minka (Minxy), and Peregrine Took (Perry).

These are all good names.
