¿Best Pop?

¿What's your favorite contemporary (like 2005-2006) pop music?

Guilty pleasures included. I for instance confess to an unhealthy preference for Girls Aloud.

So bad it's good.

There is nothing in the least bit "guilty" or "unhealthy" about liking Girls Aloud. Stop being such a twat.

Good current pop music:
- Sugababes "Taller In More Ways" (esp "Obsession")
- Rachel Stevens "Come And Get It" (esp "Nothing Good About This Goodbye")
- t.A.T.u. "Dangerous And Moving" (esp "Cosmos (Outer Space)")
- Lindsay Lohan "Speak" (her 2nd album is not so good, apart from "Who Love You")
- Ashlee Simpson "Autobiography" and "I Am Me" (both are good)
- Lillix "Falling Uphill"

Elbow has been my latest "Must Listen." I heard these guys a couple of months back and man are they good. They're still over in the UK but I hear that they are going to be released here in the US. A must, must, must if you haven't had a chance.

Arctic Monkeys - their new album is fantastic

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah...it's infectious

Also, Hilary Duff "Most Wanted" is fantastic, though it doesn't include her song "The Math", which is like the best thing ever. And the version of "Come Clean" on it is a crappy remix. So get her first album "Metamorphosis" too.

Recent purchases I've been enjoying greatly (in each case, the newest release per artist):

Aiden Hawken
Wolf Parade
Rogue Wave
My Morning Jacket
LCD Soundsystem
Ladytron
Calla
Death Cab for Cutie (waaay overproduced relative to earlier work, but I love the lyrics too much to mind.)
Clap Your Hands Say Yea (much hype, mostly warranted.)
British Sea Power
Architecture In Helsinki

I'll second the new Franz Ferdinand, and the insanely-hyped Artic Monkeys (US release today, I believe - I haven't heard the whole thing but I'm planning on getting it) may be worth a listen.

(I wouldn't call a lot of this "pop".)

Oh yeah, 'Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor' is good too, and I still can't get enough of the 'Hung Up' single from the album.

Also, a lot of these recommendations are not 'pop' in a 'popular' sense.

Interestingly enough, all of the Gwen Stefani solo album has been good as far as pop music goes. A ton of singles came off that one album.

Yeah indie rock does not equal pop.

The Futureheads. The only new guitar album I've cared about in years. Superficially similar to some of the others (Arctic Monkeys, I guess) but they make it sound urgent and new. Try their cover of "Hounds of Love" first.

Ah oops. Lessay that remix of Ne-Yo, "So Sick" featuring LL Cool J. Treacly R&B but I like it.

I'll second Robyn's "Robyn" album - smart lyrically and rhythmically and hugely fun. Arctic Monkeys, while hype-worthy, isn't pop.
