BeardFilter: Good ways to make facial hair softer and fuzzier? Do general hair conditioners work, or are there specific things for facial hair?
Conditioner works. Also, the longer your beard hair grows, the softer it will be because the outward facing part of it will be more the sides of your facial hair rather than all the outward pointing pokey hair ends.

I only use hair conditioner continuously in the first stages, untill it's not itchy. Then, as jessamyn says, it gets longer and softer (around 2-3 weeks for me), and I condition only when I am wanting my beard to smell good. Growing a beard sucks at first, but if you can get past the initial stages, it is worth it.

Do these suggestions help right after a trim, when your wife is scared of being kissed by you because your beard is razor-sharp?

I like the Paul Mitchell the conditioner for my beard, because it does a good job of softening the hair, it's just a single step and it doesn't have any strong perfumes. (On their site, they claim it can be used for shaving, although I've never tried that)
