I am involved in the design and construction of a six-classroom
Head Start building in rural Oregon. While major northwest foundations are involved in funding the building itself, I now must find sources for grants to build the playgrounds. This may run in excess of 100k. Do any of you know of likely sources for such funds?

I have just started reading
'The Mystery of Capital' by the celebrated Peruvian economist,
Hernando de Soto. Having lived in Brazil for many years and seen, on a daily basis, the irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit of which he writes, I can relate to the book and whole-heartedly support the fundamental idea running through it that clearly-defined property rights and simplified procedures for starting new businesses represent the best solution to eradicating poverty in the Third World.
I have an 18,000-word Masters in International Business thesis to submit by June 2009. I'd appreciate your suggestions, Metafilter.

I am a journalist, but having done media business on both the non-profit and private side I am convinced that what will save journalism are publishers rather than just good writing. Problem is that I can't find a publishing school that trains people beyond editorial assistance and layout. Is there an institute anywhere in the world that trains people for careers on the
business side of newspaper/magazine publishing?

Earlier this month I applied to the Master in Accountancy program at a state university. I have an excellent bachelor GPA, but it’s from a 3-year math/comp-sci program at a Canadian university. I have been taking intermediate accounting classes from a professional association, trying and failing to find a related job in the meantime. My work history is spotty at best. In short, I knew my chances weren’t good.
… until I took the GMAT today and scored 780. What now?
