Does anyone have a copy of Visconti's Lo Straniero (The Stranger)? I would pay for shipping if you'd let me borrow it.

Ask Metafilter is not Craigslist. Craigslist is a better Craigslist.

Try MetaTalk for better results.

Response by poster: In this case, Ask Metafilter is a better resource because the film is extremely difficult to find and because there seems to be a wide audience of film enthusiasts on Metafilter. Thanks for your concern.

Is it [hard to find]? It looks like Netflix has it. They also have free trial offers.

"In this case, Ask Metafilter is a better resource"

No, I'm sorry, that's not correct. Ask Metafilter isn't a classified ad system, and using it as one devalues it. I appreciate that the sentiment of "hey, Metafilter people are smart and hip and really nice and will hook me up" is a valid one, but posting to Ask isn't how one goes about asking to borrow a DVD.

Response by poster: Netflix lists it but does not have it. It only offers the option to save it. I've heard that there were some copies made at one time.

Response by poster: OK, majick, you're probably correct. When I was thinking about how to get a copy of this film, I figured my best bet would be an intelligent, international audience, and, even then, I knew my odds would be limited here due to the scarcity of the object desired.

Perhaps I should have just asked, "Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Visconti's adaptation of The Stranger?"
